Department Spotlight: Elkhart General Pharmacy and Memorial Hospital Pharmacy
The Pharmacy staffs at Elkhart General and Memorial Hospital serve a huge role every day in the patient recovery and healing process. With pharmacists, technicians and support staff, the pharmacies are dedicated to providing medications and pharmaceutical care while keeping medication safety and patients at the center of all they do.
The hospital pharmacies perform the following duties:
- Serve all areas within the hospital that require medications
- Stock medications in automated dispensing cabinets for nurses to administer to their patients
- Review and verify medication orders placed by providers, providing a double check for appropriate dose, drug interactions, allergies, etc.
- Compound IV medications and TPNs (total parenteral nutrition)
- Obtain accurate information from patients about their medications
- Participate in patient care rounds and provide education to patients, nurses and providers
- Care for patients in ambulatory clinics
